![]() Dear my fellow world citizens, Remember when we were all excited for 2020 and all the possibilities it will bring us. Well, it doesn’t seem to be going that way at the moment, does it? I understand that there is a LOT of uncertainty, a lot of misinformation and a lot of misunderstandings. Somewhere along the way, there has been a breakdown in policy, procedures and communication. The press has been allowed to initiate a state of fear and as a result, the world, quite frankly, has gone insane. Panic has set in; people are buying in bulk from the stores and not taking into consideration their fellow neighbours needs. The Asian population has become subject to prejudice – even those who have NEVER even set foot in China. And anyone who has travelled has been made to feel incredibly guilty. I get it. This virus is very scary, and the information we receive is not clear, nor concise. We don’t know exact numbers, and we can’t say anything for sure. But during this trying time, we should be banding together. We should be taking into consideration actions that serve the greater good, like not hoarding all the hand sanitiser and toilet paper—or buying all the dried foods and cleaning products. We should be focusing on maintaining a high level of hygiene and taking care not to jeopardise those that are more prone to the fatal effects of Covid-19. I saw a great initiative circulate the internet that suggested buying gift cards or vouchers from your favourite businesses for you to use when this pandemic is over. That way, you will have something to look forward to, and that business can continue to generate revenue. I have decided to make that idea mine too, feel free contact me and know more about it! Does your favourite restaurant deliver? Maybe you can take this opportunity to order in and spend time with your loved ones. Likewise, postpone your trips rather than cancelling them. I understand your reluctance to travel but please get informed and put things into perspective. It is easy to give into fear, but we must focus on the good, we must remember what is important, and we must remember that we are all one community. I say goodbye to you, from my home in Oslo-Norway, forced to a 2 week quarantine because I spent a couple of days in Berlin, drinking a delicious Spanish wine (the name is just a coincidence) in my PJ's and trying to enjoy the forced vacation ;) A big hug from me and all the best, Jessica Meza

![]() It is very difficult to start this text as what I am about to write feels incoherent and not entirely my personal experience. 8th of March, International Women’s Day, I wonder, what women like Theresa Malkiel, Luise Zietz, Clara Zetkin, Käte Duncker, Sylvia Pankhurst, Alexandra Kollontai and Dolores Ibárruri would say about women today?. I don’t like to call myself a feminist, I just think all extremes and labels are somehow wrong and let’s say too extreme! Hehehe! The incoherence of my text is that I think women should have it all! Be independent, successful and kick asses! But I would like to see more gentlemen that open the door for women, that pay the bill, not because a woman needs a man to support her financially, but just because HE invited her out!!, I want to see more men who cook for their women, hahaha I know, maybe too much to ask, but hey! I hate cooking and I want it all, so why not wish it for all my fellow women?. I want to see more men picking up women from home for a date and walk them back safe, I am lucky enough to enjoy many of these things but I see what the world around me is heading to. None of these little details have anything to do with the ideals that the women I mention before fought for. I think we have taken things way too far! (my feminist friends are going to kill me!) I support equal rights, strong independent women, #metoo campaigns and banning sexism… BUT we have definitely taken it too far! On this quest we are trying to become men, which obviously we are not, men don’t dare to be gallant, polite and provider (which by the way is their nature), men are intimidated by us (in the wrong way) and a Gentleman is nowadays a very rare specimen. ![]() I wish I could see more women using their feminine power to get what they want without the need of comparing it with what men have, maybe we don’t want the same things! We are just blindly competing instead of coexisting, co-working and helping each other grow with our own feminine and masculine assets. At the end I think we are about to lose the battle, we now have the right to vote, to equal salary and to study, but we are giving away the right to be treated with gentlemen courtesy. -Jessica Meza the day of the dead![]() Every year, on November 2, Ecuadorians gather in local cemeteries to celebrate "Día de los Muertos", or Day of the Dead. While the holiday has similar origins to the Day of the Dead festival in Mexican communities, the traditions are very different. The tradition has developed from a combination between indigenous beliefs and Catholic religion. Since ancient times, pre-Hispanic tribes have honored their ancestors. When the Spanish arrived and celebrated All Saints Day, indigenous people embraced the tradition. This makes for an interesting blend of customs! The holiday is celebrate as a day to honor loved ones who are no longer with us, but live on in the afterlife. Families pack lunches with traditional food and gather at the cemeteries. There, they spend the day talking, eating, and help maintain the gravesite. It is a time for the whole family to be together, those living and deceased. colada morada![]() The staple food of the season is the famous colada morada, a thick purple drink made out of black cornflour, blackberries, cinnamon, and pineapple, among other ingredients. To some people, the reddish-purple drink represents blood, which symbolises life of the ones who have passed on from this existence. Up to 20 ingredients might be used, including blackberries, blueberries, and bright red strawberries. The final drink is sweet and thick, almost dessert-like. The drink is then served hot or cold, often accompanied by guaguas de pan. guaguas de pan![]() Families gather at communal ovens to bake guaguas de pan, bread in the shape of small babies or children. Other shapes like spirals and circles, can also be made for consumption as symbols of infinity. But it is the guaguas that are put on the graves. In fact, the street leading up to a cemetery might be full of vendors selling locally made guaguas de pan for those families who do not have access to an oven or time to invest in the baking. It is important to remember that to Andean communities, death is just a transition to another life. Bringing what the departed loved most is a way to show their bond with them. In Quito, one of the best places to observe this tradition is in the Cementerio de San Diego, to the southwest of the Old Town. As I moved to Norway and didn’t want to lose this tradition, I decided to create my own traditional recipe with the ingredients I could find, so if you live abroad, try this out and make more people know about the traditions of our beautiful Ecuador! -Jessica Meza It is the moto for this year's Women's Day and I have to wonder a couple of things...
This day is to commemorate the fight for our rights, equality and justice, however I think this efforts are targeted only against the opposite sex. Some of my 2018 resolutions was to be less judgemental and support other women to grow, I thought about how much harm I can cause others by judging them. Today I realise that the fight for our rights, equality and justice starts at home, and that woman to woman we have the moral obligation to support each other to achieve our goals, we have to stop criticising the one that came out of the house without make up, the one that is in a bad mood today, the one that forgot her lines in front of the camera or the one that doesn't look good on a picture. If we give it a deep thought, we will learn that all of us have an untold story, that if we practice a little bit of empathy we already know why a woman is struggling today, why she is angry, forgetful and that most of us take 100 pictures to look good in one! From now on let's think that the same thing that is happening to her, might happen to us tomorrow... TIME IS NOW!...To lift each other up! Today I make a toast for all those ugly pictures, for all the things we forget, for all the angry days, today I make a toast for our perfect imperfections! Congratulations WOMAN!! ![]() Very excited about my new project! The Motor Trimaran Camila! The first yacht of its kind that will navigate the Galapagos Islands! very honoured to be able to do all the interior design. After 6 boats that I have built, I can share with you a couple of secrets today, first.. designing yachts came to me as a gift from heaven, I was just helping a company, where I have shares, to save costs by using my good taste (read it with lots of modesty hehe) to decorate the first yacht..well it turn out to be a disaster! but it served it purpose and most of all taught me great lessons! Second, by the time the fourth boat was built, I was working as a sales manager for this product, so I had the insides of the clients requests, and that gave me an advantage over other designers: the knowledge of what is that clients want! And third...going on board of all of these boats gave me the guests experience! There I learned special things, for example a beautiful roman curtain made a lot of noise during navigation making it imposible to sleep and the doors from the closet were slamming here and there permanently! oh boy!, So now, having all the sides of the story I can say that I am confident enough, that this yacht will be beautiful, trendy yet safe and comfortable. Colours already picked up, classic style in furniture, raw strong materials and a mix and match of the old and the new. I will keep you posted on the way!
